Why haven't I made much progress in writing the last few weeks? Uh oh, here come the excuses...

I had a baby.

Well, it wasn't me that did anything, but my wife. We had a healthy baby boy who was admitted to the NICU for observation for a few days. I was off work for a little more than a week and because I work night shift, and was distracted by my new little bundle of joy, my writing took a backseat. But things have been moving along, if slowly. So, what have I been up to?

I managed to query 5 more Agents, although by now I should be up to 10 more. I received one rejection in less than 48 hours and still waiting to hear on the rest. My first batch must have been 49 days ago, because I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple of those. I appreciate a quick response, even if it is a rejection, and strangely enough I appreciate more of a wait. I like that I still have queries out at any given time. It makes me feel accomplished. I'll send another 5 queries out here in the next week.

I've been blogging about my next project: The Soulmate Project, and I believe I mentioned before about running into a similar idea while researching. The One by John Marrs has a similar premise if a different genre. It also has a season as a show on Netflix. I didn't know if I wanted to delve into this world, as I didn't want it to influence my story in anyway. However, I did end up watching a few episodes, which led me to picking up the book. I'm not a fan of the quick chapters and the jumping from character to character that don't seem to interact....yet. But each story is compelling and it's hard to put the book down. One of the characters is going thru the same character arc as my main character, my main plot even. Two of the other arcs are much more interesting. And worse of all, I feel like the story fits better into that genre than my chosen one. I highly recommend reading this book, but it's completely deflated my motivation to start The Soulmate Project. I don't usually stare at a blank computer screen, but now I do with this project. So, I formally announce that I will be shelving this project for the time being and digging my claws into the next project. No title yet, but I've been world building and jotting notes down. It's highly likely that this will be my Nanowrimo project this year!

Anyway, thanks for reading. Keep on writing. and I'll see you next time.
